Big Brother Is Here
April 20, 2005This kind of scares me–someone throws out an old journal and it is found by someone else, who blogs about it, including scanning some of the pages and posting a photo of the author and her full name. And someone sees it who knows her and blogs about it. So the act of discarding a personal diary in this instance amounted instead to broadcasting it to the world with name and photographic attribution. So anyone who Googles this girl’s name–prospective employers, romantic prospects, family members etc–will instantly find her personal diary.
That’s why I do this with old diaries:

UPDATE: The post has been removed at the request of the author of the journal.
shredding old diaries seems like a more logical, if less entertaining, move than reading them onstage:

what a riot–i wish i had seen that show. i still have some diaries from grade school that would probably be funny, but the more recent ones go straight into the shredder.
