I Hate Flowers. And Trees.

April 4, 2007

The pollen must be freakishly aggressive right now. I have never had such a severe allergy fit in my life. Even drugs don’t seem to affect it much.

Meanwhile I went to the store to get some Sudafed cuz the non-pseudoephedrine stuff is useless, and I had to go to the counter, show my ID, write my address, and sign for it. And the guy was kind of a jerk about it so I felt like a criminal just asking for it. Just for that I think I’ll cook it into whatever the kids are cooking it into these days.

And today the weather is gray and rainy and I LOVE IT. Drown that damn pollen.

Frigid Movie Theater, Anyone?

June 26, 2005

Today is the kind of day when you walk out the door brimming with energy and a list of errands you plan to run … until about 45 seconds later when you start mentally lopping off all but the most essential errands on the list as the humid air presses down on you. “I really don’t need those Q-tips, I’ll stop at Brooks another time …”

At least, that’s what I did.

This Flower Is Wilting

June 10, 2005

Okay I’m tired of summer already. What’s with this humidity. It’s like a Maryland summer here. Yuck.

Bonus points to the person who can identify who I’m quoting in the title of this post.

Finally Summer

June 5, 2005

Overnight I went from space heater to cooling fan. And I’m a little too shellshocked to put away the space heater just yet. Not for nothing–it’s supposed to be 60 degrees tomorrow. But even though I am generally not a summer person, I can’t get enough of this weekend’s weather. I actually enjoy being reminded that my body is capable of perspiring in situations that do not involve physical exertion. I’ve missed it.

This morning I found both Diesel and MacKinnon’s to be half empty. That has never happened to me before. I wasn’t sure if it was the weather or the timing–it was about 10:30, and some sort of marathon was starting up, runners with numbers on their backs swarming the sidewalks. But shortly after I entered both places, they started filling up.

Everyone was so friendly this morning. From the smiling runners stretching before their race to the heavy-accented (and likely mafioso) old guys greeting each other in front of Mike’s (“How you doin’?” “How you doin’?”). Funny what a little sun and heat will do for those who have been deprived.

Oh Enough Already!

March 11, 2005

I really should check the weather before I leave the house more often.
I am not at all appropriately dressed for another fucking snowstorm.
This is a total repeat of Tuesday, when I left the house dressed for
the 50 degrees-and-raining weather and then came home that night in the
middle of a violent blizzard.

Anyone want to pick me up and drive me home?

In other news, I have been working out before work every morning for
the past 2 weeks and it is a great mood-booster but it also causes me
to crash every day right about … now.

Blue Skies Right, Gray Skies Left

February 9, 2005

Circumstances will be dropping me at Kenmore Square tonight at around
10pm and I was looking forward to walking across the bridge from
Kenmore to MIT to get home but I just heard about the snow that’s
coming our way so it’s looking like that would not be a very fun walk.
Damn. I guess I’ll have to Green-Line-to-Red-Line it after all.

But on a good night, that is a great walk.

Amazonian Shoveler

January 23, 2005

Yes I live with three healthy men and *I* and I alone did all the
shoveling this morning. My walk and the neighbor’s. Thought I’d help
those Irish blokes find a way out. (Yes, four healthy Irish men next
door too and they haven’t shoveled either.) So it was me and the
neighborhood husbands out there this morning, shoveling away. Neighbor
husband said that if I just connected to his path at least I’d have a
way out. Harumph. I connected to his path and then forged my own out to
the street and then back in the other direction to the Irish house.

There’s A Road In There Somewhere

And it ain’t over yet!
